Subject: For Advocacy Orgs: Cycling Education Summer Updates
To: Cabobike <cabo...@cabobike.org>
Hello,

We hope your summer is going well and that you're finding ways to keep cool this season! As fellow leaders in the bike movement, we wanted to give you some updates on what’s going on with us here at the League and highlight some resources and opportunities that can support your efforts to make California more Bicycle Friendly.

League Cycling Advocate Certification

Join us at our next League Cycling Advocate (LCA) workshop — an opportunity for people like you to become certified advocates for better bicycling. Our second and final LCA training of 2024 will be taking place in my hometown of Philadelphia from July 24th to 26th. I hope to see you there as we learn fundamental advocacy skills and gain an official LCA certification! Spots are limited, so don’t miss your chance to join the 2024 cohort.

National Bike Summit - Save the Date

Mark your calendar for the premier bicycling advocacy event, the National Bike Summit, happening in Washington, D.C from March 11th-13th, 2025. With reauthorization of the transportation bill looming in Congress, we need all hands in the halls of Congress demanding safer streets and more funding for cyclists! Stay tuned to the League's calendar for more details coming soon.

NEW! Learn to Ride Manuals & Resources

Learn to Ride classes are growing in popularity for both youth and adults. To help cycling educators teach consistently and effectively, the League created its new Learn to Ride curriculum. With the help of Bike New York and the support of woom bikes, we created two Learn to Ride Manuals, specific to teaching adults and youth how to ride. The manuals, available in English and Spanish, take you step-by-step through the process of setting up a learn to ride class, building a trusting environment, and teaching students how to ride a bike. A digital version is available to League Cycling Instructors through the LCI Portal; hard copies are available in the League storeWatch the instructional video and access the one-pager in the Learning Center

E-Bike Smart

E-Bike Smart is a five-part video series that provides guidance on safely operating and riding an e-bike, battery maintenance, collision awareness, and more.  The videos are on the League's Learning Center along with a 20-question test, where users can earn a certificate of achievement. Test your knowledge and then send it along to a friend!

Biking on Amtrak Will Get Better!

Good news for cyclists! Amtrak will include more bike storage on new Airo trains, eliminating the need to remove front wheels and accommodating mountain bikes. While Amtrak couldn't address the multi-trip bike fee issue yet, some states already subsidize bike fees on local routes. The League will keep working on improving bike access on Amtrak and across the nation. Learn more on our blog.

Upcoming Webinar: What It Means to Be a Cycling Educator

You don’t have to be an extraordinary athlete or overachieving student to be a stellar cycling educator, all you need is the conviction that life is better for everyone when more people ride bikes. The League has trained cycling educators for over 50 years and we have certified nearly 7500 of them! In this webinar, you’ll hear from three League Cycling Coaches, those who train cycling educators, on why it’s valuable to be a certified bike educator and why a community is better for everyone when it has cycling educators delivering classes and being a resource. Please join us Tuesday, August 6 at 3:00PM ET

Host a League Cycling Instructor Seminar

Is your community interested in having more LCIs to teach cycling education? Consider hosting an LCI seminar. Earlier this year, we hosted a webinar to outline the process of hosting a seminar. You can watch the video here and learn everything there is to know about hosting an LCI seminar. Find out more about the process on our website.

Thanks for all you and the California Association of Bicycling Organizations do to support the bike movement in California and beyond. You are the foundation of a Bicycle Friendly America for Everyone.

Be well and safe riding!

Sincerely,

-riley.
