The only UAV I know of that can takeoff and land on a boat would be a helicopter or a tri - quad rotor aircraft.

I figured that.  But have you seen one do this?  The winds on the ocean and expense at dunking in the sea are huge obstacles.

This is not as difficult as it may sound.  Having the boat pointed into the wind, the plane can approach the boat slowly enough to be caught by hand. What I would like to see is something for the masses that would assist as a lookout for boats in the sea.  A craft that would run a pattern with live shot beamed back to a monitor and then to come and land even into a net.  I think there would be a tremendous market for this.

SCANEAGLE was originally meant to do nearly the same thing.  It was meant to look for tuna from tuna boats instead of expensive helicopters...
