Hi all, I sent this out early December, but it was the holidays, so maybe a tough time to get people to read and process things.  Read the below email for details, but here's a summary:

1) For those of use that were reading it, let's finish up the DDD book, one way or another! Anyone in?

2) Haskell: is there still interest? Interest in switching things up to something else?

3) I can arrange online things, but not in-person stuff-someone would need to step up for that since I won't be there-unless you guys want to try weekend events, of course!

If nobody responds to this message, I'll take that as a declaration of lack of interest.

Phil, thanks for the reminder!

As some of you know, I accepted a position in Austin and have moved to Austin as of last Tuesday.  I'm still interested in continuing along with the book club, but my ability to attend meetings in-person is going to be a bit restricted from now on.

For the DDD meetings, there's no reason to change a thing. Actually, since we missed the first DDD meeting, anyone interested in trying to schedule a makeup? It would have to be during this week or next week, or things will get impossible with the holidays and we might as well wait until January.

For Haskell, I'm going to outline a few options or future meetings.  I'd like to know what you all think.
1) Just go back to skype, no more in-person meetings for a while.
2) Move to something like skype that can pass around control of a screen (something like webex maybe- but I think that costs money? something else? suggestions?)
3) In-person meetings, but on the weekend?  (road trip to Austin, anyone? haha. that'd be cool, but I figure I'd be driving down with this option, which I'm cool with on the weekend. not sure about New Horizons availability on the weekends.)
4) In-person meetings during the week, just like the previous two Haskell meetings - note that with this option, someone else will have to take over coordinating things since I won't be able to attend-certainly not with any regularity. I don't want to discourage this option, just that for purely practical purposes, if this option is preferred, someone other than me is going to have to step up to make it happen.

What do you all think?

I would love to keep up with Haskell, even remotely.

Wondering if we really want to keep up with the in-person meetings if
maybe doing a social meeting in Austin or down in SAtown would do the
trick too. Say on Saturday, like every other month? It's not that long
of a drive, but I don't have a family or significant others, so don't
know how people want to spend their Saturdays.

1)k lets finish up DDD. still feel like I could stand to read it again
(and I will).
2) Haskell is fine, I'd still prefer strongly prefer Erlang, but we
can always do that later if we try to rush through Haskell faster.
since inperson is shot Skype does now have screensharing and we may
just have to try it out and see how well it works:
http://www.skype.com/allfeatures/screensharing/
3) An in-person once every so often would be nice, regularly
scheduling it will be tough with our attendance lately. If Annie
decides she wants a trip down on the weekend she can let us know in
advance and we can just use it as an excuse to get drunk.

1. I am also in for finishing up DDD. Now what chapter were we on again?

2. I would like to continue with Haskell. It's fascinating and I credit it for helping me start to make better use of the functional aspects of C# 3.5.

3. Ryan and I just tested http://www.mikogo.com for desktop sharing and it worked great. Supports up to 10 participants and allows for switching around whose screen is displayed. We can use this in conjunction with Skype for remote meetings.

I would also be in for an occasional get-together. I'm kind of with Jeremiah that this doesn't have to take the place of a regular meeting. That way, whoever couldn't make it wouldn't miss out on one of the chapters.

Up for finishing DDD. Last chapter, right?

Not interested in Haskell. Erlang, yes.

I'd also be interested in reading Ayende's Boo DSL book. Anyone else?
If not, I'm reading it on my own anyway.

Annie, thank you still leading this group, even from Austin.

I'll second Erlang over Haskell. Also wouldn't be too bad finishing up DDD.

Mikogo looks cool, let's try that in the upcoming meeting. So when's the meeting again?

Hi all! I believe we actually had 2 chapters to go - last month got skipped entirely due to holidays, etc. It looks like AlamoCoders is off this coming Tuesday the 12th, so we could do the next-to last chapter in DDD Tuesday at 7:00 if that gives people enough time. sound good? or too soon?

As for Haskell, would the following Tuesday (as in, the 19th) give people enough time to get ready for the meeting?  That would put us back on our regular 1st and 3rd tuesday schedule.  Sounds like there's enough interest in Haskell to continue for now, and we can re-eval as needed.

And of course, I'm all for get-togethers! (that part almost goes without saying...)

Lastly, perhaps it's ridiculous to even consider it, but soon-ish, assuming we do successfully meet a few times, we'll be done with the DDD book. What then? (other than the obvious celebratory event of some kind!) Go Haskell alone for a while? Rotate in another book? (the boo book, as Jason suggested?) No answer required for that right now, just something to think about.

I'm up for Tuesday for DDD

What chapter are you guys on in Haskell. I may not find it relevant,
but camaraderie is fun anyways.

Jas: You actually 3rded the Erland idea, it was originally Ryan's. :)

Its a brand new year and I will ask a question that i have asked before. Whats the consensus on moving our meetings from Tuesday to Wednesday?

No reply would mean a "no can do", which is not a big deal.
