Hi guys,

I would agree that technological change is one of the greatest
obstacles in this (Tech-) world.
We are still sitting in driving cars, not in flying cars, promised by
the year 2000, What is up with that ? :)

Seriously though, I like the idea of the book "Driving Technical
Change" from PragProg.
I learned from Anne that we would read a certain chapter or two and
then meet and discuss
the chapters. I am also a techie by heart and I do believe that we
can use modern means
of communication, like chats for "minor meetings" and if possible even
a face to face meeting
with the local members. Again, if we do such thing we can broadcast
the face to face session
to our friends who might not be able to be there in person at that
point in time.

Ideas and suggestions are always welcome and I am a very open minded
person.
Since these forums and discussions are more likely than not spidered
by search engines
I am a little reluctant to put in my cell phone number, but if any of
the real flesh and blood people
wants to talk to me, just shoot me an email and I'd be happy to
provide further contact information.

I've got nothing to hide :)

I hope we all can enjoy the so revived Tech-Book club

Sounds like a plan folks! Sorry to chime in late .. lets rock with Driving Technical Change, of which i failed recently.

As always, my recommendation at least for the first meeting would be to meet in person. This could be after or before the Alamocoders meeting this Wed also. I'd prefer before if possible.

Very cool,

As I just re-started this group I have questions, too. Where did you
all meet before?
In person is greatly appreciated … :)

I am sure that I'll have more questions coming as we go!

Hi guys,

I am sorry it took a while to get back here.
I got me a copy of the book "Driving Technical Change" and I started
reading the
first two chapters thus far. Where and when shall we meet?
I am eager to get this group restarted, so let's plan not too far
away.

I would be down with that. Just bought the eBook, should be able to get through the first 2 chapters by then.

Same place?  La Taza at Brook Hollow/281?  Another suggestion is Local Coffee on La Sonterra.

Hi Jason,

I am sorry to hear that you got stuck at work!

Phil and I discussed the different skeptic patterns (Chapter 4, "Who
Are the People in Your Neighborhood?")
and as for the preparation for the next meeting (proposal: Feb. 3rd,
2011 ?) we thought it would be good to
pick two of the skeptic patterns and then pick up on the "Effective
Countering Techniques" for the picked
skeptic patterns.

Example: Let's say you would pick The Burned and The Boss (hint hint)
then you would cross reference
the skeptic pattern for these with the Effective Countering Techniques
for those two.

Phil picked:
* The Herd
* The Cynic

Kai picked:
* The Time Crunched
* The Irrational

Jason, your turn :)

Available are:
* The Uninformed
* The Burned
* The Boss

When we discuss these skeptic patterns in our next round we will learn
about pretty much
every pattern and we will also see how the same technique might fit
(or not) for other skeptic
patterns.

Again, sorry that you were stuck in the office, but better luck next
time.
