The University of Texas at Austin’s Energy Science & Technology Institute (ESTI) introduces 6th - 12th-grade STEM teachers to the latest technological innovations in the Texas energy industry, with specific applications to subsurface engineering and geology. ESTI is FREE for Texas 6th - 12th-grade STEM teachers!

💡PROGRAM AT A GLANCE

The five-day summer institute, led by numerous faculty in the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering, offers a comprehensive program that includes hands-on activities, labs, discussion sessions, breakout sessions, and online coursework focused on energy activities in Texas.


Participants will have the chance to engage with faculty and discuss technology, engineering, careers, and other topics in an informal setting. Each workshop covers a variety of energy themes, such as the global energy marketplace, petroleum engineering, the water-energy connection, energy portfolio mix, geothermal energy, carbon storage, and hydrogen storage.


Upon completion of the Institute, teachers will receive 40 CPE hoursUT Austin is an approved TEA Provider.


*Accommodations and meals are provided for all participants.


To help offset expenses associated with traveling to Austin for a week of learning:


  • Each teacher receives a $200 stipend for attending and completing all aspects of the institute.
  • Acceptance to the Institute requires a $100 registration fee. This fee is returned to the participant as part of their payment upon completion of the institute. ($100 registration fee returned + $200 stipend = $300 payment) The registration fee is non-refundable for those who do not complete the Institute.


  • Each teacher has the opportunity to apply for a $700 stipend to provide an abbreviated version of the institute in their school district, city, or region during the following school year.


  • Each teacher will receive a travel stipend upon completion of the institute to help offset expenses related to travel to Austin and meals during evenings not provided.
