Most of us often discuss world peace and
means of effective conflict resolution while respecting socio-cultural
and religious sentiments of conflicting groups. Over the past 10 years,
I have worked closely as a volunteer with the International Art of
Living Foundation (AOLF - a United Nations accredited NGO which has a
special consultative status with the ECOSOC) whose primary aim is to
"bring peace in society by bringing peace in the individual." The AoLF
not only teaches secular breathing and meditation techniques to help
people from all walks of life to better manage stress and achieve
personal excellence in their chosen fields, but also teaches trauma
relief programs in war torn areas and regions affected by natural
calamities. For its work over the past 30 years, the AOLF and its
founder HH Sri Sri Ravi Shankar have been nominated thrice for the
Nobel peace prize.
The AOLF is celebrating its 30th anniversary by organising Europe's
largest peace festival in Berlin's Olympiastadion on July 2-3, 2011.
More than 70,000 participants from 151 countries are expected to attend
this event to contribute their voice to the goal of world peace. The
two day festival brings together various socio-cultural and spiritual
traditions from all over the world to demonstrate the reality of
harmony in diversity. Whats most amazing is the fact that the entire
event is being organised by volunteers and every penny earned will go
towards service projects of the AOLF (health and hygiene camps,
education and housing in the world's poorest countries).
The festival is not only very meaningful in its aim and vision, but
is also guaranteed to be a whole lot of fun. Some of the highlights
planned include:
1. Europe's largest peace meditation with 70,000 people
2. The grand guitar ensemble for peace (with 2000 professional and
amateur guitar players - if you play the guitar, you can join them :D)
3.
Folk dances from around the globe (including one of the largest ever
Bulgarian folk dance performances with more than 1000 Bulgarians)
4. The world's largest vegetarian food festival
5. Choreographed yoga performance with 1000 professional and amateur
yoga practitioners from all over the globe
6. 1000 drummers from various regions of Africa
7. World music, including performances by Outlandish, Elitsa Todorova,
Ira Losco and many others
As one of the volunteers of AOLF, I extend to you this special
invitation to attend the event. Special discount tickets and some free
tickets are also available for large groups. The volunteer group of
Munich will also be happy to provide you information and help to
arrange travel to and accommodation in Berlin.
