I’m happy to announce a new Hyrax Tech Team for 2025, and a new opportunity for a Hyrax developer to join them as a Tech Lead in training.

2025 Hyrax Volunteer Leadership Team

Randall Floyd from Indiana University has volunteered to serve as Hyrax Tech Lead for 2025. Indiana University has generously offered to allow Randall to serve in this role for 40% of his time in 2025, and to also allow Daniel Pierce to continue to contribute 25% of his time to Hyrax maintenance in 2025. They will join the Hyrax Product Owner, Nicholas Homenda from Tufts University, in forming a strong volunteer technical leadership team for Hyrax over the next year.

However, Indiana University cannot continue to provide staffing for Hyrax technical leadership beyond 2025. We need a volunteer Hyrax Tech Lead ready to dedicate a portion of their time to community work in 2026.

Opportunity for a Tech Lead in training

The Hyrax Tech Lead role has been difficult to fill because the Hyrax stack can be intimidating, even though the role does not require being the expert on all things Hyrax. By creating a Hyrax technical mentorship opportunity, we’re hoping to show that the role is more manageable than you might imagine, and is a great professional opportunity for both an open source community-minded individual and their institution.

Having a team in place for Hyrax provides a great opportunity to learn community leadership directly from experienced peers. We’re seeking a Hyrax developer volunteer to work with the 2025 team, and prepare to take on the Tech Lead role in 2026. This developer will need to commit 25% of their time to Hyrax maintenance work, and in exchange they will have the opportunity to work directly with Daniel and Randall, and will automatically receive a free seat in any developer training offered by the community in 2025.

If you are interested in this Tech Lead in-training role, please fill out this form by January 24th, 2025. Please get in touch if you have any questions, or join us at the Hyrax Interest Group call on January 8th to learn more.

Thank you,

Heather
