Hello all,
The Samvera Accessibility Community Sprint was a great success, and we addressed the majority of Hyrax issues required to reach WCAG 2.0 Level A conformance. From October 28 through November 8, 2024, we completed 34 out of 47 total issues. Feedback from sprint participants was positive: from detailed, specific, and actionable issues receiving attentive development and quality assurance testing from nine community members, to our GitHub project board facilitating automatic deployment to our development Hyrax instances.
Of the 13 remaining issues, only 7 are needed in order to meet WCAG 2.0 Level A conformance. Work on these issues does not need to wait for another themed community sprint, can occur during any of our upcoming Hyrax Maintenance Working Group sprints, and offers a great opportunity for community members to contribute to the continual improvement of Hyrax. Once fully complete, this work will be included in an upcoming Hyrax release.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Community Sprint:
Rebekah Kati, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill (Hyrax Product Owner)
Daniel Pierce, Indiana University Bloomington (Hyrax Technical Lead)
Juliet L. Hardesty, Indiana University Bloomington
Randall Floyd, Indiana University Bloomington
Linda Sato, University of Oregon
Randy Kuehn, University of Louisville
Christine Peterson, Amigos Library Services
Amanda Hurford, Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI)
Nick Homenda, Tufts University
I would like to especially thank Rebekah Kati, Hyrax Product Owner from 2022 to 2024, for her leadership and vision in organizing this work.
We plan to organize additional themed community sprint work to reach future Hyrax/Hyku goals in 2025.
Thanks,
Nick Homenda
