This is a follow-up to the announcement made in June 2021 regarding the Samvera Branch Renaming effort.  In accordance with their charge of upholding the Samvera Community's Code of Conduct and reflecting its core values by eliminating coding jargon that perpetuates racist systems, language, and mentalities, the Samvera Branch Renaming Working Group has completed their work.  All repositories in the Samvera and Samvera-Labs at this time have been renamed, updating the default branch name from "master" to "main."

What does this mean for contributors and maintainers?

If you are a maintainer of a Samvera-Labs repository, review open pull requests related to this work, targeted to closing issues that start with the string "RENAME." If you have a fork on GitHub, update the default branch name to "main." See the Samvera Virtual Connect 2021 Branch Renaming WG Update slides for screenshots illustrating how to do this. Once the branch has been updated in the fork, GitHub will alert users to the change when they visit the repository's page, and at the terminal.

If you have a local clone, you can update it by running the commands in this GitHub gist on your local copy after the change has been made. If you have questions or would like assistance in ensuring your copies of Samvera repositories are up-to-date, please do not hesitate to contact the Branch Renaming Working Group in the Samvera Slack #branch-renaming-wg channel.

Best,

Kate

My apologies, here is the GitHub gist for updating any local clones of repositories that have been changed - https://gist.githubusercontent.com/kelynch/9ba595e369c304b560477f3636b41e8a/raw/0de40bebf18f61ec72e88484dcc9388a64855766/gistfile1.txt
