2 – Developers needed for the Hyrax-Valkyrization Community Effort – September 6th - 16th
Developer volunteers are needed for the Hyrax-Valkyrization Community Effort – September 6th - 16th. You can participate in one day or all nine days. This critically important work will make a positive impact on all our Samvera technologies, and the work is being done 100% by community volunteers.
Here are some highlights of the remaining work:
Collections filter and Collections metadata (easy to get started)
The Viewer and Filesets (close to done)
Embargo, Transfers, and Work sharing
Collection sharing, nesting, and membership (still require some big lifts to re-work and complete)
The remaining tasks are being turned into workable issues, and will be ready to go for the sprint. Testers will be available as well to help move things forward.
Developer resources for this work are available, and the Hyrax Maintenance Working Group is currently preparing and refining issues from the last community effort to make developer work easier during the sprint.
If you’d like to participate please sign up on the wiki page. If you don’t have wiki access that’s no problem, just email hea...@samvera.org.
3 – Everyone can test as part of the Hyrax Valkyrization Community Effort
Calling all community members! We need your help during the Hyrax-Valkyrization Community Effort, September 6th - 16th. You can participate in one day or all nine days. This critically important work will make a positive impact on all our Samvera technologies, and the work is being done 100% by community volunteers.
Testers don’t need any special software, as you’ll be testing in a browser on a cloud-based test instance of Hyrax. You will be checking to see if specific functionality is performing as expected, and reporting your findings in a Google spreadsheet. You don’t have to be familiar with Hyrax to do this testing, as the testing spreadsheet will make it clear what functionality is expected.
Optionally, this testing is an excellent way to learn to write issues in GitHub – we can teach you how to report the bugs you find to developers, or you can document them in the spreadsheet.
If you’d like to participate please sign up on the wiki page. If you don’t have wiki access that’s no problem, just email hea...@samvera.org.
4 – Samvera Metadata Interest Group co-facilitator opportunity
The Samvera Metadata Interest Group (SMIG) is in search of a c-facilitator!
Facilitator responsibilities include:
Scheduling monthly meetings and preparing agendas
Commissioning working groups and specific initiatives as needed
Reporting to the community at Connect/Virtual Connect meetings, or sending an update
This role would be a one year commitment, beginning after Samvera Connect in October. If you’re interested and would like to discuss further, please contact the current co-facilitators, Anna Goslen (gos...@email.unc.edu) and Nora Zimmerman (zimm...@lafayette.edu). Thank you!
