bcc: hindu yuvaa sunnyvale shAKhA, samskritam2010, bay area shikShakAH, foster city samskritam, a handful of individuals who may be interested.

Dear all:

We have all heard of (and some of us have visited) gurukula-s in India where students are instructed in samskritam and hindu arts besides regular subjects like science, mathematics, english, history, social science etc.. We have also seen videos of St. James school in UK where (mostly non Indian) students are taught samskrit [please click on links to follow videos, I strongly encourage you to watch them]. Benefits of such schools are as follows:
  • Kids growing up in an environment filled with Indian culture is desirable - not just for their development, but also for the revival of bhAratIya samskriti.
  • An environment filled with samskrita, that unifying language that is at the core of classical hindu culture, together with regional languages and hindu arts can provide the corner for such an environment.
There is currently no such school in USA. Let us start one in the Bay area.

I know it is a multi year project, as described here and here. But everything has to start somewhere. So, I have created this email list. Please subscribe yourself to it.
  • There is no shortage of students who would benefit from such a school.
  • There is no shortage of teachers who can staff such a school.
  • There is no shortage of parents who can pay for such a school.
  • There is no shortage of accountants/ lawyers/ leaders who can assist in its formation and incorporation.
What is lacking is:
  • A groundswell of interest.
  • A starting point and coordination.
What can you do if you are interested?
  • Please join this this email list.
  • Please forward this email to those who might be interested. Distribute widely. <--Important.

The project is more important than why a random individual (me) is interested. I hope I have done something useful by starting a discussion. Clarifications on where I stand:
  • I have no immediate self-interest in this project - having no children; and I currently favor moving to India when I do.
  • I like the silicon valley culture, where start-ups are common. If there is a need, one must fix it. That makes me excited about contributing to this project.
  • Like every engineer, I believe in my ability to change the world with other interested people.
  • While I am happy to contribute as and when I can, I have no illusion of "owning" or leading this project. (In fact, given my social skills [sic], I would bet that against such eventualities.) Those things can happen organically.
