Dear friends,

Regarding the samskrita school project:

* I have collected all pertinent information in this web page.

* How about forming a Homeschooling-coop [FAQ] as a first step? [1] I mean this: parents who are interested in the area could come together and homeschool their kids [2], with a curriculum which reflects our shared goal. They could then pool their skills and labors.

So, please give me your honest feedback. Would any of you home-school in this way (I would if I had a kid)? What are your friends' experiences with home-schooling?

It would be great if atleast a significant fraction of us are not too risk-averse :-)

========
[1] AFAIK, there has been no progress towards starting a samskrita school since it was first proposed. I had assumed that those with higher stakes than childless me would light up the way like dry twigs struck by match -- but that has not happened. So, trying to find a smaller, more clearly defined starting point.

[2] I think homeschooling is best done after formal pre-school (which has been shown to be extremely useful in forming the soft skills of a child).

Thanks for the feedback, Kiran (let others pour in)!

I have been unsuccessful in getting any of my friends/relatives here to seriously learn Samskrit. Most are interested and think very high of
the language and its revival and learning, but none have actually taken up.

Yet there are plenty of us who are/ have turned serious about it. I didn't expect some non-speaker to commit to homeschooling - rather I was hoping for such boldness to (initially) come from Samskrita speakers.

Hari OM!

I am extremely interested.

Please add me to your mailing lists. I am presently not on them.

Am a father of two kids middle school and intermediate. I go to great lengths to send them to some Sanskrit school even though it is only one hour a week, but it has a solid path in the form of a curriculum. I find lot of interested and enthusiastic parents lack guidance and co-ordination. Primarily there is a complete lack of a solid curriculum that moves the child ahead. After a level 1 class for the 20th time from someone who is not perfect in level 1 yet, the kids loose interest and respect. So if there is some co-ordinated effort in creating a curriculum, for properly thought out 'levels'/age groups/grade etc, other things will happen. Guidance as often parents are interested but not sanskrit experts themselves. Primary job at hand is educating kids to a quality standard, if self-education is naturally conducive to the primary goal, parents will learn, else their personal goals can sometimes be a bit offset, even though in the broad area of Sanskruti.

Specifically about home schooling. I had looked at it when kids were in elementary and at that time even thought it was very attractive, gave up the idea because of lack of 'acceptance' in family and broader society, as it was not practical for lack of support structure of parents of similar background. In small town US it might work for a while parent who gets together with other like minded ones. However, you are right, there is enough interest in the bay area and if good organizational support is given to start this right, it will work. I feel it is paramount that more effort is put in up front, so less things have to be worked out as things move along. I could be interested in home-schooling for Sanskrit alone. Complete home-schooling is ideal but it needs significant backing - resources and organization for it to reach a point where my middle schoolers could do 100%.
