namaste friends.
In one of our company mailing lists, I saw this in a thread about mandarin-immersion schools:
"We just visited 4 bilingual preschools for our 2.5 yr old:
- Agape in San Jose (20% of communication with kids in mandarin, the rest in English)
- Greenleaf in Cupertino (30%)
- Montessori in Santa Clara (10%)
- Wonderland in Cupertino (90%)
We decided to go for Wonderland because the teachers seem most loving and they use mandarin almost exclusively (apart from English classes). All the preschools claim to have mandarin-speaking teachers, but even those teachers seem to prefer to use English to communicate with the kids unless they're specifically using Chinese language teaching materials. (We're taking the opportunity to fully immerse our kids in mandarin for as long as possible.)"
Reading that I was saddened that I/ we haven't contributed to anything comparable (in scale or boldness) for samskrtam.
One good proposal I heard during the kAverI samskritam camp was to convince some Indian school (I hear there is one in the bay area) to include a samskritam class in their regular curriculum. Another proposal was that we ought to meet to start things off. So let us meet this weekend - Saturday evening at 7 in the sunnyvale area (I myself live in San Bruno). Please RSVP by emailing me.
