In Indian vernacular languages both versions of the noun, सृजन and सर्जन (creation, the act of creation) formed from the verb सृज् (to create) are current.  Monier Williams says that सृजन  is w.r. (wrong reading) for सर्जन.  Why is it so?

It is grammatically wrong form as the correct form सृज् verb. Just like दृश् - दर्शन, कृष् - कर्षण, मृश्- मर्षण, etc. There is no दृशन, मृशन, is possible. It is Hindi word used in the sense of creation, and also in other languages. But may be some usages found in classical literature, influenced by the vernacular usage.
if Monier Williams lists any usage.

You can see this effect in other धातु-s too, like मिलँ. While the Paninian ल्यूट्-form is मेलन, मिलन is quite commonly heard in Kannada, Hindi and probably other languages. Even an accomplished poet like Sri. Vedanta Desika uses it in his पादुकासहस्रं - मुक्तांशुजालमिलनाद्रुचिरैः प्रवालैः

As Sri. Bhat says, it could be other languages influencing Sanskrit composition.
