Respected Scholars,
Wikipedia says the word प्रद्युम्न as " It is also the only name in Sanskrit with all the 3 letters joint (referred as जोडाक्षर)". How is this substantiated? There are many words in Sanskrit with all the 3 letters joint e.g., अगस्त्य. I hope scholars can shed some light as to what the original meaning of the sentence in wikipedia.

Just count the conjunct letters instead of total letters. You have wrongly read and understood the Viki and interpret it of your own. There are three conjunct letters what you call "jodakshar" or "संयुक्तवर्ण " in Sanskrit, in the name प्र -1, दयु 2, म्न 3.

This is not seen in any of the words you have quoted   अगस्त्य. But you can create sequences with all conjunct letters, स्त्र्यत्र त्रात्री and the like. But they have stated it as the name having all the 3 letters conjunct as I have shown all the three in consequence numbered. Does it change the meaning of the word   प्रद्युम्न in any way? I don't think.

Always take Wikipedia with a pinch (well a ship load of, imho, when it comes to Indian issues) of salt.

I will just quote copule of  example. arghya, archya

When enter veda lakshaNa, one will encounter words which have as many as 7 consonants.

I will give you that word and the logic behind it after I get hold of the book tribhashhyaratna which I had lent to somebody and that person is dead way back in Feb 2008.

Dear Iyer,

Please read the Viky wordings = as " It is also the only name in Sanskrit with all the 3 letters joint (referred as जोडाक्षर) written English according to English usage as an English sentence according to English language and don't bring in Sanskrit grammar or Sanskrit works like "त्रिभाष्यरत्न" etc. into it.

In English, the sentence simply means this: "all the three letter (अक्षर} s in the word  प्रद्युम्न  are  joint letters (=conjuncts)". This implies that there are three letters in the word and all the "three letters"  (अक्षर)s are conjunct letters  (referred as जोडाक्षर) . And in other words, all the  (अक्षर)s in the "name" are conjuncts  (referred as जोडाक्षर). And in none of the examples you have suggested, is a "name" and in any of them, "all the letters" are not conjuncts  (referred as जोडाक्षर). And it is not the question of the conjuncts having "three letters", but the "name" which having  "all the letters" are conjunct letters. Casually, in the name, the letters in total in the word   प्र-द्यु-म्न are 3 and all the 3 are conjunct letters. Why to infiltrate a "pinch of salt" into it with your logic?

Perhaps the the word "letter" should be replaced with "Syllable" in the above paragraph.

and perhaps we should diffrentiate between varNa and akshara.

Maybe then I would not have interjected.

BTW most names are words.

Are there proper nouns in sa.nskR^ita?

I stand by it as I have seen entries changed, vanishing etc. over a period of time.

I do not wish to go into that minefield now.

Thanks.

I too do not want to go to beyond fields of mine.

Just showed what the Viki article had intended.  But for the definition and the usage of the word अक्षर I can quote the width of meaning which is not limited शब्दब्रह्म but

as given in the above page.

With regards
