I transcribed it in devanagari based on my limited sanskrit knowledge and try to put as correct word as possible. I doubt she or other singers did iota of research to find the original script. Other performers including Yesudas are much worse.

Everyone does happily sing मदुरापुरी, hope someone can correct this madness. I saw a youtube video for मेधा सूक्तम् । Everyone was happily singing मेदा । I wish people understand the differnce between मेदा & मेधा ।

Here are my questions

1. Is it मधुरापुरी or मथुरापुरी । Krishna's residence was मथुरा before the move to द्वारका।

2. What are the meaning of words highlighted in Red

3. How Krishna got the name मधुसूदन ? (मधु & कैटभ were killed by Vishnu) was there any other राक्षस named मधु?

4. Please highlight my typos in Devanagari as well

I would appreciate your help in finding the correct lyrics. What puzzles me why people post these lyrics online unfortunate thing is it shows up in the first google search.

Namaste,

There is a website dedicated to the composer of this kirtana, Oothukadu Venkata Kavi. The lyrics available at this site seems complete and reliable.

shankara

Thank you for sharing I am not interested in more butchered versions. I was looking for original text. Shankara Ji shared the text, and hopefully in future someone with better pronunciation and singing skills will create one

Thank you

Sri Sitaram-ji,

If you observe closely , the lyric has anupraasa repetition of a consonant as an alankaara in it.

So, it is possible that the original vaaggeyakaara himself had

"maduraa puri sadanaa mridu vadanaa madusoodanaa iha "

Tamil has this tendency.

कळभ/कलभ is also a word in Malayalam, a south Indian language. It means sandalwood paste that devotees apply to their foreheads. The same word (कलभ) appears in कलभाभिषेकम् (I'm using Devanagari to transliterate a Malayalam word), which means applying sandalwood paste to a मूर्ति in temple (this is usually performed by a priest). कलभ is also used loosely to mean a mixture.

Namaste,

Sabdataravali, a Malayalam lexicon, defines Kalabha as a mixture of 8 stubstances. Sandalwood is one among them.

I think that Original composition must have been sanskrit. But this definately is not. I never heard ढा in any Indian music scale.
There are many typos for basic words which are commonly used in many Indian languages.
