I have a deep interest in reading and learning Mahayana Buddhist sutras and mantras. These sutras were originally in Samskritam. Today India has lost valuable knowledge about Buddhism but  these sutras have been preserved in Samskritam in siddham script in countries as far as Japan. Through a local bay area zen monastery I realized how to this day this precious knowledge from India is deeply venerated and preserved. Key Sanskrit words and many mantras were retained as-is since there was no equivalent in the local language. One of the important Mahayana Sutras is Shurangama sutra. The shurungama mantra which is a part of this sutra is very powerful. I chant it everyday and it has brought me immense peace of mind. I need your help to understand the meaning of Shurangama mantra and have it written down in Devanagiri script. I do understand some of the words in the mantra but not all of them. Can you please help me. This is the link to Shurangama mantra.

Lakshmi,

Is this the sort of thing that you want?

When you view the site, be sure to scroll down to view the text in its multiple scripts.

Then, if you still want explanations, you can grab the word(s) you want explaining as text, thus for the learned ones to enlighten you.

Lakshmi,

           namaḥ śrī-sarva-buddha-bodhisattvebhyaḥ|  नमः श्रीसर्वबुद्धबोधिसत्त्वेभ्यः।

Something is getting lost in the transmission, not to mention in the translation.

You seem to be following a series of translations, Chinese to Malayan to English...

... and hopingto obtain a Devanāgarī version of that third-hand translation, but not surprisingly, can’t find one!

Whether you are seeking the prosperity that the maṅgala mantra supposedly brings, or simply the Devanāgarī text of that mantra, you would be wanting the original, authentic version... if indeed there is such a thing.

Perhaps, you should be seeking a Sanskrit speaking bi-lingual Chinese-English Buddhist person to pose your request (:-).

Good hunting,

  Taff Rivers

Hi Taff,
The shurangama mantra was not translated into Malay language. It was only from sanskrit to pinyin chinese. The translation by master Hsuan Hua is considered to be a legitimate translation. I originally studied the shurangama sutra and discovered the chanting in pinyin. I looked for the sanskrit translation and came across this version. I have been chanting this mantra daily for a few months now and have experienced deep peace of mind.

Lakshmi,

The season's greeting to you.

There is a quote Translated from Chinese originally written in Sanskrit to be found in a text:

But that bald assertion does not seem to be substantiated in the book itself.

However, the publishers Buddhist Text Translation Society appear to be tri-linguists.
Perhaps you could query them as to the mysterious Devanagari source text.

As ever, though, there are degrees' peacefulness', and at all levels it is never the ritual chanting that does the business, but the being mindful of the objective of all those noise making (or word scribling) undertakings, whatever the noise makers inherited language.

A matter of active expenditure of native will-power. It is certainly not a passive procedure.

I speak of one whose humming-sound (eventually) made the light work.

I understand that your dharini, the term as in your original post, to be the Devanagari dhāraṇī, there being no such word as dharini.
