There are two verses like this:

indro māṁ pūrvataḥ pātu vahnirvahniḥ sadā mama ।
yamo dakṣiṇataḥ pātu nairṛte nirṛtistathā ॥ 22॥

varuṇaḥ paścime pāyādvāyavye'vyātsadāgataḥ ।
kuberottare pāyādaijānyāmīśvaro'vatu ॥ 23॥

These are to be chanted in the gayatri chandas, according the the rishyadi nyasa (gayatri meter). How are these verses to be chanted in gayatri, since the verses are split in groups of 32 syllables each, providing perfectly for anushtup!

Moreover, there are mantras like the well known 'Om Namah Shivaya', which should be done in the pankti chandas.

So, how does one adjust the syllables so that it fits in with the chandas?

Usually before this, I was only aware of the anushtup way of chanting, since it's quite popular and I used to hear people chanting slokas, sahasranamas etc. in that chandas alone. I've only recently been studying these more in detail, so I'm quite new with handling this.
