can someone please tell me the Unicode character set for these two letters.
क्ष
and
ज्ञ

I can type by combining
क्ष =  क् + ष

ज्ञ = ज् + ञ

but I am looking for one key stroke as it is available in MacBook and Windows on screen keyboard as well.

Thanks for your help

Never mind my question - after two days of frustration I figured it out. For reference here are the codes if you know how to edit keyboard layout

U0951+U094D+U0937 = क्ष
U0936+U094D+U0930 = श्र
U091C+U094D+U091E =  ज्ञ
U0924+U094D+U0930 = त्र

its very simple, just join all the Unicode Char codes, that takes to create the desired letter with a "+" sign

Raama,

Think about it - we would need rather a large keyboard and lots more fingers than what we've got.

Fonts containing common ligatures are not hard to find, but will still require two or more fingers to click those keys.

Such keys are still clicked in combination and in sequence

Like, press and hold one or more of them modifier keys - Crtl, Shift and Alt.
and then, but not before else all labouring is in vain, press, and release, one of them letter keys.

These days, with the likes of Windows 10, you can simply speak nicely to your computer to get the job done.
However, people do tend to feel a bit silly when talking to nobody, so confine Cortana to the bit bucket.

Taff,
Here is the link to keyboard that I am used to https://ubcsanskrit.ca/keyboards.html
I am also attaching letters it can produce with just option and corresponding one letter combination. There are many empty space where I can assign different devanagari letter. I am working on Ubuntu on MacBook Pro.
Shift + X produces क्ष.
I agree we would need lot more keys to get all combination but क्ष त्र ज्ञ are taught as letters in Hindi. thats why I wanted to have a key for them instead of typing क ् ष all the time.
