I am unable to see Devanagari / phonetic symbols on the Goldendict program in Windows. Attached screenshot shows how the text is rendered.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Naresh

You may have to install some fonts, if your system doesn't have them already.
Otherwise, you may have to change settings of goldendict.
Please, add more information, as whether you reinstalled Windows or not?

I have Windows 10. Until now I had the dictionary app on my android phone alone. I'm trying to install this one on my laptop now.

Please, try suggestions from this page :

I'll like to concentrate on devanAgarI first. We know that Unicode fonts are native to Windows10. So, we may just need to play with some settings to make it work.
Please, try suggestions and then inform us.

BTW, the screenshot was not clear enough to me.

i also use win10. the sanskrit fonts are properly displayed. Screenshot attached.
As the software uses dictionaries of different languages, it should enable unicode fonts. If there is sn issue it is likely to be the stardict file used as there are different versions of codification used in that dictionary file

श्रीमल्ललितालालित, I did try the suggestions listed on the wiki page. No dice.

I obtained the stardict files from here: http://aupasana.com/pages/stardict.html

Try this:

Copy paste from older thread on this Group:

1. Paste the following into a notepad (text file). I use notepad++. You may have to download it.

body
{
margin-top: 1px;
margin-right: 3px;
margin-left: 2px;
margin-bottom: 3px;
background: white;
font-family: Siddhanta, Sanskrit2003, Kokila;
font-size:18px;
}

2. Paste the following in the 'save as' field and save the file.
%appdata%\GoldenDict\article-style.css
Replace, if it asks for that.

3. In Windows folder options, disable 'hide known file extensions'.

4. Open the following folder (replace **** with your Windows username).
C:\Users\****\AppData\Roaming\GoldenDict

5. Check the extension of the file. If it is .css, then OK. Otherwise, change the file extension of the text file to css. i.e. article-style.txt(or anything) to article-style.css.

6. If GoldenDict is open. Close it - by right clicking on the icon situated in notification area and pressing quit/exit -- or by clicking File>Exit in the application window.

7. Restart GoldenDict.

I hope it helps.

If it doesn't, then inform us.

Thanks, I had followed that. It looks like I needed to restart the machine to make it work .. I am able to see the Devanagari text now.

Thanks again.
