Respected Scholars,

I am looking for the Mahabharata in telugu lipi (not translated, sanskrit in telugu lipi). My searches on google have been in vain so far. My bookshop contacts have said that there is no such  thing, atleast for all parvas.

I would be greatful if any of you could point me to any resource / link. Could you please help ?

I was told that the 'madras edition' was supposed to be in Telugu lipi with the nilakanthiya vyakhya. I couldn't find any so far.

Thanks
Vissu

Sir,

Please let me mention that I am a dumb person, definitely not a scholar. I don't know Telegu. This could be a wild goose chase.

Are you looking for a digital form or book form?

If a digital form then the text of Mahabharata is available in Devanagari on many sites including Wikisource (though with mistakes) and it is very easy to convert Devanari to and from Telugu script. I once wrote a simple sed script to convert between Nagari and Kannada scripts which is the fastest way.

For a book form, you may want to check with some publishers.

Respected Sir,

I am looking for either form. Thanks for the suggestions.

I think i will venture into the conversion idea. I also saw that we have itrans files on sanskrit documents site. It should be simpler for me to run itrans on them to produce telugu script.

Thank a lot for the suggestions,

vissu

Sir,

I checked the links. On the first  link, it provides regional translated forms only, and Telugu is not mentioned there.

I found the itrans links in the second link, and  I think this will help me arrive at the requisite form.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions,

Thanks

MB in telugu script with Nilakantha's commentary was published c 1850 by puraaNam Hayagriva Shastry. I have a copy of this with me (needs preservation). I have used this extensively for my researches into dating of the MB astronomical statements. Shastry in his introduction says that he collected several versions from Varanasi and other places to prepare his edition of MB. More or less at the same time Vishnu purana (with sridhara and Vishnuchittiya) and Bhagavata were also published. I have these also from my grandfather's collection.

I am in the process of Transliterating the Vyasa Slokas in Telugu Script Manually, and in about two years (using my free time) I have come to end of Karna parva. I think at this pace, it may take another year or less for me to complete transliteration of only the 'moola slokas'. After many trials over net and when I could not get one in telugu script, I started up with this project my self.

I plan to go ahead with free translation of the slokas in the years to come.

here is link to 18 volumes of Mahabhata

When you click on each file a download button would appear at the bottom right corner.
You can download them to your computer and edit it, since the conversion was done using a computer program you might find some mistakes but that will surely reduce your effort to type.

If you would not download it then do let me know and I will send a mail with these files as attachment to your personal mail-ID

Please let me know if you have questions

In the early part of 20th century most Sanskrit texts were being printed in Telugu in the South. There was(?) a publisher, Vavilla Rmaswamy Shstrilu, in Chennai who published such works. I would be surprised if he had not published Mahabharata.

It is just source text without translation- only mUlam.

Please get all 18 files by changing that parva number (mbh01, mbh02, mbh03 put in blue in the link) in the http in same manner as above.

I do not know how to get all 18 files one by one- they did not give any link- as "next, previous" etc.
Please see this-

Or just select Telugu from links above on this page.
And then do same- as said in previous post. Change "mbh01" part in link to the number you need Eg. mbh01, mbh02, mbh03...mbh18

Dear Shri Rama,

I am a 80-year old Telugu-Speaking Linguist from Hyderabad (Telangana), India.

Presently, I have been teaching the Divine Language - SANSKRIT since six years FREE OF COST through online(via.Internet)  by conducting an e-mail - based Sanskrit Basics' Course titled 'LEARN SANSKRIT MODULES'.   The Round-8 Batch has just started on 18th February, 2018 with 2,500+ enrollment!

Now that there is a great demand for my above Course in Telugu Medium in Telugu Script, I am in search of a 'Tool' which gives the output into Telugu Script from my Sanskrit Modules in Devanaagarii Scipt.

As such, I shall be highly grateful to you if you could share the unicode script convertor shared by Anunadji (mentioned by you in your reply to Mr. Sastry ji) with me.

Awaiting your earliest possible response.

Sorry for my late response which is due to other preoccupations!

I have tried the readmylanguage link.  While it is functioning well ONLINE, it is asking for the Internet Connection when working OFFLINE!   And, the other links are not found to be suitable.

Further, I shall be thankful to you if you could suggest any Free Website which gives correct English Transliteration from Devanaagarii (Sanskrit) Sentences, if any.  Kindly advise.

Presently I am using 'iTranslator99' of Omkarananda Ashram, Himalayas.  Though it is giving correct English Transliteration and Devanaagarii outputs, since its output is not in UNICODE, I am facing lot of problem to convert the Devanaagarii input to other Indian languages' scripts!

I cannot speak for telugu, but as a beta tester for Itranslator2003 (available from  https://omkarananda-ashram.org/Sanskrit/itranslator2003.htm for nearly two decades).

Itranslator2003 supports unicode.

I am not able to quite follow this discussion as it is not
unidirectional. But I would like to summarize the various options
known to me for getting Mahabharata in Telugu script-

1) Use Asian_Script_Interchanger.html or virtualvinodh.com or
Sanscript etc --> Copy the Devanagari text from some source and paste
in the converter box and choose options to convert to telugu lipi and
finally click at 'convert' to get the required output.

2) Use BhaSha IME --> This can allow you to maintain the formatting
while changing the script. Here you will have to go to Transliterate5
where you will have to choose Uni Dev --> Uni Telugu Vedic for
converting Devanagari to telugu.

3) Use Foxreplace which is an add-on for Firefox. --> If you use this
when you open any page of Mahabharata, it will show in Telugu script
to you which can be read or copied. In firefox, you just tell which
site(s) are to be 'operated on' by this converter. Here again,
formatting is preserved. Useful for html pages.

4) If Itranslator Sanskrit99 to Unicode Devanagari converter is
needed, it is available.

Dear Mr. Ken P:,

I have tried the Sanskrikt99 to Unicode Converter the Link of which provided by you and is working well.  Is there any facility to download it and work offline too?  Please clarify.

Further, is there any Converter which gives English Transliteration from Devanaagarii Unicode/Other Indian Languages Unicode?  Kindly provide if you come across any.

With best wishes,

Prof. R. N. Iyengar,
Greetings!
Sorry for joining in this thread many years after it was initiated. In case you are still in this group, is it possible for you to scan/photo the title page or first few pages of the book (where the author introduces himself) of this book? I have not found a copy of any other work of Sri Hayagriva Sastry (Bhagavatam) or his brother Sri Venkata Krishna Sastry except Hitopadesha on archive.org.

Are you looking for a digital form or book form?

If a digital form then the text of Mahabharata is available in Devanagari on many sites including Wikisource (though with mistakes) and it is very easy to convert Devanari to and from Telugu script. I once wrote a simple sed script to convert between Nagari and Kannada scripts which is the fastest way.

For a book form, you may want to check with some publishers.

Thanks
Vissu

When you click "Critical Edition "  on this page:

https://sanskritdocuments.org/mirrors/mahabharata/

you get

when you select the parva and click,

you get this page

on the top right right corner, you may select the desired script into which you desire to convert the page

After taking a few seconds , the page appears in that script.

"My bookshop contacts have said that there is no such  thing, at least for all parvas."

I am sorry to hear that your bookshop contacts could not help you.

There is at least ONE published Mahabharata in Telugu script - that is from Gita Press. It consists of 7 volumes with Sanskrit slokas in Telugu script along with Telugu tatparya for each sloka. Price Rs. 2,800. I am owning a copy of the same.

This set is available from all major Gita Press book stores, many online stores and few other bookstall in all major cities.

You can buy or at least see the sample pages here...
