Use of बहिस्

Dear list members,

Maurer's sanskrit textbook has this example:

नृपो नगरस्य बहिर् वनं रथे गच्छति |

But both Apte's and Monier-Williams dictionaries say that बहिस् is used with the 5th case.

Are both  the following correct:

नृपो नगरस्य बहिर् वनं रथे गच्छति |

नृपो नगराद् बहिर् वनं रथे गच्छति |

or only नृपो नगराद् बहिर् वनं रथे गच्छति |

बहिर् comes with Panchamii vibhakthi... hence it should be नगरात् बहिः।
