Different meanings of योग्य

Dear list members,

Two different works I just looked at use the word 

योग्य  but with very different meanings.

In Rāmāyaṇa verse 2.1.17

शीलवृद्धैर् ज्ञानवृद्धैर् वयोवृद्धैश् च सज्जनैः |

कथयन्न् आस्त वै नित्यम् अस्त्रयोग्यान्तरेष्व् अपि ||

 

योग्य has been translated as exercises, practice.

I.e. अस्त्रयोग्य is translated as weapons practice, or weapons exercises.

But another hymn I just looked at दत्तात्रेयस्तोत्रम्

verse 7 is:

भोगालयाय भोगाय योग्ययोग्याय धारिणे |

जितेन्द्रिय जितज्ञाय दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते ||

How would you translate योग्य in this verse.

The basic/etymological meaning: fit/suitable/qualified (to associate with) seems to be fine: something like, 'one who is suitable for good persons to associate with'.

According to Apte's dictionary, the word for exercise/drill is yogyaa, in feminine. Seems to be a "technical" usage.

योग्ययोग्याय would mean something like "to the fittest of the fittest"

From that etymological origin, the word yogya has connotation meanings such as 

joinable, unitable, usable, employable---> eligible-----> qualified --------> acceptable ------------ > respectable 

In the case of astra , as in the case of the Ramayana verse , astrayojana is using astras astrayoga is the technique of using astra (with the prefix pra- the same becomes astraprayoga - astra-pra-yoga ) 

astrayojana astrayoga is the activity of using astras ( as part of learning to use astras) 

( it seems to be astrayogaantareshvapi ) 

yogyataa in the shaastras of sentence analysis is a required relation between / among words.  That relation is 'the fitness to be put together in a sentence'. ( joinability between/among words) 

(Yogyataa, aakaankshaa and aasatti are the required relation among words for them to be able to form a sentence) 

But in daily language , in Sanskrit and many Indian languages, even in contemporary use, as a qualifier for persons, the word yogya means respect-worthy  with the semantic route 

oinable, unitable, usable, employable---> eligible-----> qualified --------> acceptable ------------ > respectable
