Hi, I really need some help.  I got my 9 year old son into coding and he has taken to it in a big way.  He started with scratch and has moved on to Java/minecraft.  I got him started with Sams book but he left me for dust on it ages ago.  Anyway to cut a long story short Our Mac was running slow so I did a restart and also reset the PRAM.  When it started up again Eclipse would not run his masses of coding that he has done over the last two months.  I can get eclipse to run but it no longer comes up with the minecraft folder?  How do i open up his work?   We can see that his files are there but how do we open it all back up again?  I really really need some help.  I am not a programmer... does anyone live in Norfolk who could assist??

Hey,

I'm sorry to hear that your son has lost his projects. If all of the files are still there you should be able to open it. There are 2 options.
First of all, check if the .metadata folder, .settings folder, .classpath file and .project file still exist. If they do, you should be able to open up eclipse and set the workspace to the folder with the .project file and it should work.
If any of those files or folders are missing or if it doesn't work, you'll have to do something a little bit more annoying. For projects that aren't Minecraft, ask him (or do it yourself) to create a Project with the name of what he was making. Preferably in a different folder than he has been working in up to now. Then, drag the code/resources from the old workspace into the Project in the Eclipse window (should be on the left). Hopefully, Eclipse will import all of them and he'll be able to continue.
For Minecraft projects, run the setup from the first chapter. Again, it's better if it's done in a different folder. Finally, drag the files and folders from the old workspace in the project view of Eclipse and it should create all of the necessary packages and make Minecraft run again.

Hi thanks for your reply it was very helpful.  The problem was with the forge folder.  I pretty much did what you said. I replaced the forge folder with a new one and then swapped the files under src/main/java/com/myproject and src/resources into the new folder. I did get some help from a guy who knew java and had used eclipse once before.  I think I would have struggled without your help.  Anyway, thanks again ...I have one happy little boy now!

It's a great book and william is totally engrossed in modding now!  Im just trying to keep up!

Here is a link to his website showing his mods in case you are interested
