ok, so we finished all the steps up to page 17. Then it tells us to open Eclipse and select the workspace. I do. Then when it opens, it tells us to click the downward arrow to open the Minecraft project. When I do, the arrow disappears and if I double-click on the Project it says I cannot open it. WHY?

Thanks.

Try reinstalling Forge. Sometimes something will go wrong and the easiest way to fix that is not to figure out what exactly, but to simply redo it.

Hi-Just got this book, same problem:

The project description file (.project) for 'Minecraft' is missing.  This file contains important information about the project.  The project will not function properly until this file is restored.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I had the same issue and eventually realized I forgot to execute the second command on page 17:

gradlew eclipse

once I executed that, the missing .project file problem went away.

I'm also a dad trying to help his son learn this.  I'm running into the exact same problem as above, where I click the arrow next to the Minecraft folder and nothing appears.  I've reinstalled Forge, followed all the steps exactly, and executed all commands (including "gradlew eclipse), but still the same issue.

Any ideas why?  I'm not a programmer and am fairly clueless where to go from here.

thanks!

Hi,

Sadly, I've never had this problem myself and it's also very hard to fix because there are so many reasons why this could be going wrong.

Are you sure the gradlew setupDecompWorkspace eclipse command runs without errors?
Are you sure you are opening Eclipse in the right folder?
Maybe, try a different version of Forge.

Does any of this fix it?
