China has urged Thailand and Cambodia to exercise restraint and make full use of existing bilateral mechanisms to prevent tensions along their shared border from escalating.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made the remarks during a regular press briefing in Beijing on Thursday, addressing the rising tensions along the Thai–Cambodian border.

"China is aware of recent developments regarding the situation and issues related to the implementation of the Thailand–Cambodia joint statement," he said.

"As a close and friendly neighbour to both Thailand and Cambodia, China sincerely hopes that both sides will exercise restraint, remain committed to friendly consultations, make full use of existing bilateral mechanisms, and find a mutually acceptable resolution at the earliest opportunity, so as to prevent the situation from escalating."

"China will continue to play a constructive role in its own way to help ease tensions and stabilise the situation," he added.
