Vice President of Candlelight Party charged with defamation after alleging results of 5th Commune / Sangkat Council Election 2022 were ‘rigged’

Representatives of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court have decided to charge Mr. Son Chhay, Vice President of the Candlelight Party, with “public defamation” in a complaint filed by the National Election Committee (NEC).
The complaint was filed after Mr. Son made remarks on online media, alleging that the results of the 5th Commune / Sangkat Council Election 2022 were rigged.
After the indictment, the prosecution ordered to send the accused and the exhibits and the list of persons involved in this case to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for trial.
It should be noted that the National Election Committee on June 17, 2022 filed a lawsuit against Mr. Son Chhay for public defamation and requested a public apology.
