Dear Google Group Members:
The SAMHSA Disaster Technical Assistance Center (DTAC) is beginning development of a new issue of The Dialogue, our quarterly newsletter for disaster behavioral health (DBH) professionals. We wanted to make you aware of the opportunity to contribute an article to this issue, as well as future issues over the next several months.
The next issue of The Dialogue will be about diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in DBH. We hope to include stories about working to ensure that DBH efforts and programs include and account for diversity in communities, such as variation in races, ethnicities, language communities, socioeconomic status levels, abilities and disabilities, and sexual orientations and gender identities and expressions.
Articles could be about planning processes where you increased inclusion of all members of the community, response efforts or programs where you reached people in historically marginalized populations, partnerships that helped you broaden the reach of your work in DBH, or something else on the DEIA topic that would be helpful for states, territories, tribes, and localities seeking to make their DBH work more inclusive.
Articles for The Dialogue are usually about 1,500 to 2,000 words. We would need a first draft of your article by November 10. If you’re interested in contributing but don’t have time to write an article, one of our staff could also interview you and write an article based on the interview.
If timing and/or topic don’t work for this issue, we have two more editions slated for release over the next several months:
-An edition about climate change and disaster behavioral health, with first drafts of articles due by December 18
-An edition about rural and remote disaster behavioral health, with first drafts of articles due by January 16
If you would like to contribute to the next edition of The Dialogue, please send a message to Ms. Kate Hough of SAMHSA DTAC at kho...@iqsolutions.com or to dt...@iqsolutions.com by October 18. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.
Sincerely,
The SAMHSA DTAC Team
I forwarded this on to one of our CCP grant providers during COVID Recovery Iowa, Mike Lightbody at the Center for Development and Disaability Services as they did and continue to do great work with the topics you are asking for!
