Geoff Kors Bio

Equality California’s executive director Geoff Kors is a graduate of Stanford Law School and has a long and distinguished record of service to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. Prior to taking the helm of EQCA, Geoff was a partner in a California civil rights law firm. During that time he originated and orchestrated passage of San Francisco’s landmark Equal Benefits Ordinance.

As executive director Kors directs EQCA’s legislative efforts, which have helped give LGBT Californians the most comprehensive civil rights protections in the nation. Under Kors's leadership, EQCA has passed more LGBT rights legislation than any other organization of its kind in the country. During his tenure, California became the first state in the nation to pass marriage legislation for same-sex couples. The Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act passed the California Legislature in 2005 and again in 2007.

The San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center, Inc., (d.b.a., The Center) is the nation's second oldest and third largest LGBT community center. Functioning as the LGBT community's leadership organization, The Center is led by a 20-member board of directors, employs over 40 paid staff and utilizes more than 300 community volunteers. Incorporated in 1973 as a community-based, non-profit, 501(c) (3) agency, The Center has more than thirty years of experience as a health and human services agency. In 2008, The Center provided direct services to more than 25,000 community members and through its events, activities and advocacy, touched the lives of thousands more.
