FROM BREATH TO
SOUND ~ Rhythm and Song in our Bones
A Retreat with Francesca Genco, Laura Inserra & Claudia Anfuso
April 17-19, 2009, Santa Cruz Mountains
Come and experience your true nature through the sound of your own voice and the rhythms of your own body!
This retreat is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in SOUND – in the vibrations present all around us and within us.
You do not have to consider yourself to be a “singer” or “percussionist” to participate. We wholeheartedly encourage all who feel called to come and join us in this exploration of voice and rhythm. We will practice cultivating the beginner’s mind, novice and professional alike.
During the weekend, Laura and Francesca will lead us in:
Claudia will teach gentle yoga on Saturday and Sunday mornings. She will also offer half-hour Jyotish consultations. Jyotish is the study of the Lords of Light, otherwise known as Vedic astrology. Learn what the planets, the Sun and the Moon had in store for you at the moment of birth. Appointments will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis, so sign up early. You will need your birth data, including as precise a birth time as possible. The fee for readings will be donation-based.
The retreat will be held at Camp Double Bear in the Santa Cruz Mountains, a wonderful retreat center on an exquisite landscape. There is a hot tub and cold stream to splash in and trails for walking. Delicious meals with vegetarian options will be provided.
The cost of the retreat is $225 if paid in full by March 27, $275 thereafter. Some work scholarships are available.

Francesca Genco has been singing and exploring sound as a dynamic source of healing and transformation for over 20 years. The practice of kirtan (devotional chanting in the yogic tradition) and the shamanic practices of many cultures continue to inform and enrich both her personal practice and the Chanting and Sound Healing Circles she co-facilitates with her fellow members of Shakini, a powerful group of women singers and musicians. She is the founder of Song of the Body, which offers classes, workshops and retreats in sound healing, yoga and creative expression.
Laura Inserra was born in Sicily, Italy. At the age of 15, she began studying classical piano, but her passion for learning led her to the improvisation style. She attended the Classical Music Conservatory in Rome, where she studied classical orchestral percussion. Thanks to her teacher, Gianluca Ruggeri, she intensified her skill in minimalist music. Currently, she is based in Berkeley, California, where she creates soundtracks, performances and concerts with artists of all genres. She is the founder and artistic director of Samavesha, a production that seeks to unite different expressions of art in beautiful, inspiring and unique events.
Claudia Anfuso has been studying Hatha Yoga for 10 years and teaching for 5 years. She has had the blessing to study with some of the best teachers that have enlivened in her a deep respect and profound passion for Hatha Yoga, Jyotish, Tantrik Philosophy, Sanskrit, Vedic Ritual (puja) and Mantra. Her favorite aspect of teaching is working with students to develop the foundations of a personal practice.
Hope to see you there.. Laura
