Dear friends of Samavesha:

A new fall series of percussion classes led by our talented and inspirational Laura Inserra is going to begin next week. Please read below for more information and pass this along to anyone you might think interested in the workshop.

Sorry for the late notice, and keep in mind that it is not necessary to start on the first day, you can drop in at any time in the duration of the workshop (of course, the earlier the better for you).

Enjoy, and we hope your autumn is filled with creativity and joy.

Samavesha Productions presents:

Percussion & Rhythmic Improvisation Workshop

Conducted by Laura Inserra (Anandalahari)

Mondays 7-9pm
October 6 – December 22, 2008

This is a group workshop for people who desire to re-discover & express the spontaneous pulsations embodied in the human being, learning techniques of improvisation & world rhythms.

Starting with a single sound we will execute simple and cross rhythms, studying the relationship between "pause-tempo-rhythm" to then create "musical dialogues". We will learn how to listen and identify a rhythm or a music style.

We will work on the posture of the body and on relaxation techniques, the "regain cycle", creating rhythms through dance. As a group we will create and study pieces for a performance for friends and family.

It is recommended you use a djembe drum, as it is the easiest instrument on which to learn the
percussive technique. If you want to buy a djembe, we will organize a trip to some local stores to help you purchase one. If you wish to use a different drum, contact us and let us know.

Registration: $150 four consecutive classes or $40 per class
Location: a  private home in the North Berkeley Hills. Call for more details.
