The current version of SAM does not estimate GHG emissions reductions
directly because it does not store information about the emissions
profile of displaced power generation resources. However, you could
use SAM's hourly, monthly, and yearly electricity output data as input
to a GHG model.
SAM's parabolic trough models can simulate a system with gas backup,
which assumes a natural gas-fired heater supplements solar energy to
maintain the fluid HTF fluid temperature at or above the design point.
SAM does not currently model solar-gas hybrid systems.
If you were to use the trough model's electricity output as input to a
GHG model for a system that included gas backup, you would have to
account for emissions from the backup system separately using the
Q_aux_fluid output variable to estimate the fuel consumption, and
apply your own emissions factors to estimate the GHG emissions.
