I am having an issue where the minion won't respond even via salt call.
I tried restarting both the minion and the master but nothing.
Tailing salt master logs shows nothing.
I tried clearing the minion cache, /var/cache/salt/* and that didn't help either.

I am running 0.10.4. I know it's old, but communication from the minion and master usually works, although spotty with this version.

I ran salt-minion in the foreground, it cannot seem to get beyond this point.

[root@local fcode]# /usr/bin/salt-minion
[WARNING ] Setting up the Salt Minion "local"
[WARNING ] Although 'dmidecode' was found in path, the current user cannot execute it. Grains output might not be accurate.

Any help is appreciated.

Try running both master and minion in the foreground with the ' -l debug ' argument, so it will spit out debug level logs. Also if your salt configuration files are not in /etc/salt/, you should provide that argument as well.

Are the minion and the master both running 0.10.4?

I've seen this warning on a minion running inside an openvz vps. So it might be a OpenVZ specific issue.
Is the minion running in a VPS? On what virtualization technology/service?

I don't think that warning is relevant to your issue.  I've seen it before when the minion is running as a non-root user.  But as the message says, it's just a warning--it shouldn't affect the minion's overall operation outside of grains that require dmidecode in order to be determined.

If you add "-l debug" to your foreground invocation of salt-minion, do you see it doing (or trying to do) other stuff after that message is printed?

I am getting this warning on ARM, but the minions and master are still running OK.

just my 2 cents
