Running salt version 2015.8.1 on all my minions and master.

When my salt states update my servers they have been failing because of a "Hash Sum mismatch" trying to get the latest packages from some ubuntu repositories:

2015-11-04 11:04:26,789 [salt.loaded.int.module.cmdmod][ERROR   ][16077] stderr: W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/trusty-updates/main/source/Sources  Hash Sum mismatch

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
2015-11-04 11:04:26,789 [salt.loaded.int.module.cmdmod][ERROR   ][16077] retcode: 100
2015-11-04 11:04:26,790 [salt.state       ][ERROR   ][16077] An error was encountered while checking the newest available version of package(s): W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/trusty-updates/main/source/Sources  Hash Sum mismatch

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
2015-11-04 11:04:36,092 [salt.loaded.int.module.cmdmod][ERROR   ][16077] Command 'apt-get -q update' failed with return code: 100
2015-11-04 11:04:36,093 [salt.loaded.int.module.cmdmod][ERROR   ][16077] stdout: Hit http://www.rabbitmq.com testing InRelease

However, if I manually do the apt-get update/upgrade, all is well.

Why would salt be seeing those errors, but not the native utilities?

I would recommend looking through the debug log on the minions, where you should see the actual commands that the minion is running. I bet if you use those commands that you see the same errors. At that point the question will be whether the commands we're using are wrong in some way or if the repos in question have some sort of edge case bug that we're uncovering.
