Hi everyone,
Sooo. Mr. Whitman is very concerned that we honor our 3.0 'principal's list' students - grades based on the last progress reports. Here's my proposal: we have a template for a certificate for our honor role students. I will have all the name input onto the certificates and, based on all sorts of good information, Title 1 will run the color copies for us. I propose that we hand out said certificates during the last week of school before break (12/14-15) during homeroom. Obviously, some kids will be missed and you hold onto the certificates until after break.
I propose that we plan something bigger and grander (pizza party, balloon party, whatever....) for end of January when the final grades are input.
I personally feel that doing too much of a party for progress reports is not an entirely honest view of who is going to actually pass your class with honors... I prefer to save our celebration for end of January. If anyone disagrees with me, please me know.
We have a meeting on Tuesday 12/13 - we can discuss the details of a January celebration then.
On a side note - I also feel it is vitally important to keep track of our first period tardies for the next few weeks. If you can, please save the kid's tardy slips from your first period slips this coming week. Bring them to the meeting on the 13th. I feel that tardies have increased as the semester has progressed, and that a reiteration of the tardy policy is overdue on part of the powers that be. I do not like bad habits turning into chronic behavior. Also, please document any and all discipline issues in your class so there is a written record of your attempts to get help and the response that you receive. By documenting, I simply mean something as simple as noting what occurred on a sticky note so you remember it clearly later. I would also like to discuss discipline issues at our next meeting.
Thanks all,
Jen Havenner
