Hi y'all! Please see the info below about a regional trails project that needs our public comments!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Challis-Yankee Fork Ranger District is soliciting comments on the proposed Challis Backyard Trails project until September 30, 2025
District staff have made a preliminary assessment and concluded that this proposal may fall into categories of actions that may be excluded from documentation in an environmental assessment (EA) or environmental impact statement (EIS). There do not appear to be any extraordinary circumstances that would preclude the use of a categorical exclusion under 7 CFR 1b.4 (d).
Project Description
This project proposes to construct 34 miles of new non-motorized trail on Forest Service managed land seven miles west of Challis, ID using mechanized equipment and hand tools. The project would provide residents and visitors of the Challis area with non-motorized recreational opportunities accessible by passenger vehicle. For more information, see the project website at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r04/salmon-challis/projects/68598
