...pilots shouldn't take off on trip without one..Christians may try to file one, but when the Lord has a different plan...our "flight plan" goes out the window. I just read an email from a friend who is getting ready for chemo...she had everything lined up - someone to take her to the hospital, friends who planned to visit her during her hospital stay, family to stay with her when she was able to go home. But, due to one little detail (she was only following doctor's directions, but a conflict occurred) her hospital stay was put off for a week!! Such are the plans of mice and men...
BUT, my change in flight plans means I have good news to share with you! Due to the high cost of airfare these days, last summer when I was in IL, I told my granddaughters (Samantha and Elizabeth) that I would not be able to make it back for their 12th birthday on the 29th of this month. So, in July, we celebrated our usual way (a night in a hotel room, with lots of junk food, jumping on beds, lots of time at the pool hearing "Nana, watch this, and look at me, PLEASE come in the pool!!) But, that all changed last week when I made a call to a dear friend who asked if I could come to IL to help her with the care of her husband for six weeks - she offered to split the cost of the airfare with me which made is possible for me to make the trip. This is definitely a win/win situation - I can see my kids and grand children and friends, and she will get the help she needs. I love that God is there, moving all the "chess pieces" around, making things happen for us.
There is a poem that describes what is going on, not only in my life, in your life and in the lives of my two dear friends I have written about that I must share with you:
Just A Weaver |
| by Benjamine Malachi Franklin |
| |
My life is but a weaving,
between my God and me,
I do not choose the colors,
He worketh steadily.
Ofttimes he weaveth sorrow,
and I in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper,
and I the underside.
Not till the loom is silent,
and the shuttles cease to fly,
Will God unroll the canvas,
and explain the reasons why The dark threads are as needful
in the skillful weaver's hand
As threads of gold and silver
in the pattern He has planned. |
|
|
I have loved this poem from the beginning of my Christian life. In my case, there is a surprise thread of gold as He makes it possible to go home for six weeks (from Oct 15 til Nov 30) and in the case of my two friends, they may be going thru some really difficult times, and the threads may be darker, but their weaving is all the more beautiful, if not more so, than my weaving. Scripture teaches us that it is during the times of greatest trial that we grow spiritually. (James 1:1-4, The Message: "Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors."
Whew!! All that to let you know that I will be in IL, Lord willing, in two days. (although, regretfully, I will not be able to go to my Bible school 46th year reunion!) Please call me so we can get together! If you don't have my US phone number, please email me with your phone number and I will call you!
God bless you richly!!
