I have some news on Carlos that I want to share with those of you who are praying. First of all, I was so glad to hear that he is doing very well and not suffering as I had imagined. Having a past of drug addiction for over 20 years, Carlos has had a history with Costa Rican prisons, which is good or bad, depending on how you look at it. In this case, it is good because he knows the system well and how to function in it. The guards where he is currently all know him and are impressed with the change in him and are being helpful. There is a possibility that he will be incarcerated for a year or more, but please pray that the Lord will make the way for an early release. The court system is very much into helping those who show that they have rehabilitated themselves (especially since there is no such thing in the system) And Carlos is a shining example of a changed life. Ramon (the director of the men's center - Carlos was his assistant) is going to go to Carlos' social worker and plead his case since Carlos has been serving the community for several years now and has obviously turned his life around. Ramon and Rocio (my pastor's wife) went to visit Carlos yesterday and did say he is trusting God and has found peace with his situation. What we are praying for at this time is that Carlos will be put in a place called St. Augustine's which is where he can be released during the day (so he could continue to work as Ramon's assistant at the rehab center and help his family with income) and just go back to jail at night. This would be for the purpose of allowing him a full release with time.
Also, please pray for his wife Olga who is beside herself and his young son (sorry I don't know his name - he is about 9 or 10) Carlos was taken away the day before his son's birthday and the boy had told his dad all he wanted for his birthday was to be able to sleep with his parents that night, he didn't want any other present!! I know him and he is such a sweet boy and very attached to his "papi."
If anyone would like to make a donation to help Carlos with food, etc. while he is in jail, or help his wife and son financially while he is in jail, you can do so by using the "Donate" key on the first page of this blog, The prisons here don't provide much in the way of nutritious food but they do have places where he can buy food, or visitors can take him extra food to eat. I will see to it that all donations are used exclusively for him and his family. I have a PayPal account to handle this.
