One of the most amazing people I have met and fallen in love with here in Costa Rica is Alberto's (my pastor's) mom, Elsa.  The way I first met her was special, we were sitting next to each other in a church service, praising God together.  At a moment in time we both had our hands raised, they touched, and she grabbed mine and held it.  I felt such warmth from her!  Then, a little later, Alberto got up to speak and said he was happy to see him mom and his "gringa" mom sitting next to each other.  We were so happy, just hugged and hugged.  I told her how much I love and admire her son (he had stayed in my home several times when he visited Willow back in the early 2000's)  and she thanked me over and over for taking care of him while he was away from her, that he had assured her I was taking good care of him in the U.S.  She has always called me her "soul friend" and does so each time we see each other give each other a big hug. She is a pillar at CCA (the church where we attend) and even the young men at the rehab center so look forward to her visits with them each Wednesday morning; I love watching the way she interacts with them, the look of respect and love in their eyes as they listen to her wisdom.  Well, today (probably right at this moment) Elsa is undergoing major heart surgery and my heart is heavy.  Heavy because she has to go through this at her age and also because of all the risks involved.  I was talking to a friend yesterday about this and said that if she didn't make it, it would be great for her because she would in her Lord's presence, perfect even as He is perfect, but it sure would be a tremendous loss for us.  Pray with me for her, won't you?  Gracias.

I will pray that you get a chance to have that conversation with her, Steve - she really is an amazing woman.  I would be happy to translate for you - I would love to be a part of that conversation!!

Ciara and I were just talking about your group coming next week - I am so sad that i won't be here.  I was invited by some friends to visit them in Indy and go to a conference with them in St. Louis.  Would you believe that I am leaving just before you arrive on the 28th and will return on the same day the team leaves...boohoo as my granddaughter Elizabeth would say :(    But, I am glad that you and Sherri are staying on a few days afterward so I will see you then.

Maybe we could go visit Elsa in the hospital if she is up to it while you are here - we will have to check with Rocio on that.  I was not able to see her b4 her surgery because I have had a nasty sore throat/cough so didn't want to contaminate anything.  I am looking forward to visiting her, hopefully b4 I leave on Monday morning.  Yikes, that only leaves tomorrow and Sunday and she won't be out of ICU til tomorrow at the earliest.  Please keep her in your prayers - she is at 24 out of 48 hours of critical time after the surgery.  Drs said the surgery went well, we just need to pray that she will stay strong and get thru these next 24 hours and, of course, after that as well.

Hasta luego.

Hi Sally,

Sherri told me you will be gone while we are there, how sad!   This time we will not be able to stay on after the team leaves so we will have to catch you next time. :(

Thanks so much for taking Ciara into your home.  We are just getting to know her but she seems like a wonderful young woman.

We are praying for Elsa, that the Lord will wrap His loving, healing arms around her and lift her up!

I hope and pray your have a safe and blessed trip to the US.

Lord Bless,

                      Steve
