DON MIGUEL RUIZ:
THE AGREEMENTS FOR LIFE
Friday, September 13: 7:30pm-9:30 pm
Saturday, September 14: 10am - 5pm
Spectrum Theatre at Artisphere
Rosslyn, VA
This is a rare Washington, DC appearance by don Miguel Ruiz, author of The Four Agreements, a New York Times bestseller for over seven years, as well as Mastery of Love and Voice of Knowledge. The Agreements for Life is a new teaching by don Miguel, and he will be giving it publicly for the very first time when he joins us in September. This work is the capstone of his career. It brings together all of his teachings, and his family's teachings, for the first time. It's full of life-enhancing and relationship-enriching wisdom.
You can attend either Friday night's talk, Saturday's workshop, or both. On Friday night, don Miguel presents The Agreements for Life Lecture, where he teaches us how we can empower ourselves to live in truth and move beyond our limiting belief systems. On Saturday, he is joined by his son, don Miguel Ruiz, Jr., author of The Five Levels of Attachment. Together, they present The Agreements for Life Workshop, a powerful daylong program where they show you how to empower yourself to step into masterful levels of faith and authenticity. These teachings will help you to move beyond doubt, and beyond the misconceptions that create emotional drama, victimization, and the limiting belief systems that we have been programmed to accept, and which we confuse for our authentic selves. Eight of the relics were provided by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and each of those is over 2,500 years old. The relics are different colors and forms, resembling pearl-like crystals and other jewels. They were found among the cremated remains of the Buddha and other revered Buddhist masters. They have been carefully collected and preserved over the years. The relics are on tour around the world before some of them are permanently housed in the heart of a magnificent Maitreya Buddha statue in India. These objects are said to be special because they contain the essence of enlightened masters, and are thus embodiments of compassion and wisdom. This event is offered free of charge. If what we're looking for is peace, serenity and enlightenment, how do we relate to the raw and challenging emotions that arise along the way? The program features Joel Lesko and his thought-provoking new film, "Tears of the Buddha," which provides the inspiration for this event. The film is being heralded for its serious look at an area of life that is often confusing and problematic for people in spiritual practices. Are emotions an impediment to higher consciousness and transformation? What about so-called unspiritual emotions like anger and hate? Do emotions trap a seeker in the personal self? The film questions age-old teachings about emotions and leads to an important conversation about individual selfhood -- is it real, is it an illusion? What's the point of cultivating happiness and good self-esteem if the self doesn't exist? Joining Tara Brach and Joel Lesko are two teachers featured in the film, Judith Blackstone and Jon Bernie. This daylong program includes the film screening, discussions, meditation, and individual teachings by Tara, Judith and Jon. The day concludes with a concert by Carrie Newcomer, a gifted singer and songwriter with deep roots in the spiritual path. Carrie's music explores the intersection of the spiritual and the daily, the sacred and the ordinary. She has become a prominent voice for progressive spirituality, social justice and interfaith dialogue. Billboard describes her as "a soaring songstress," the Boston Globe calls her a "prairie mystic," and the Associated Press says, "Carrie Newcomer combines a rich voice with equally rich lyrics to weave a tapestry of life and hope." OPENING OF THE HEART
Saturday, July 27 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Kay Spiritual Center, American University, Washington, DC
Loving-kindness is a quality of a boundless heart that arises naturally
when painful states of mind and heart are abandoned. In this retreat, through periods of loving-kindness meditation, mindful sharing, and ceremony, we awaken together and tenderly explore our capacity to create, endure, overcome, and transform suffering. The practice of mindfulness - bringing a conscious, non-judging awareness to our own present experience - is at the heart of the Buddha's teachings of liberation. In this non-residential, weekend retreat, we will cultivate mindfulness and loving-kindness as a path to joy, inner peace and connection to our natural wisdom and compassion.
