His Holiness the Dalai Lama
University of Maryland
Sadat Lecture for Peace
May 7, 10 am
Comcast Center
We are excited by this upcoming visit to our area! Here is an excerpt of a letter from the president of the university, Wallace D. Loh:
As you know, the Dalai Lama is an international force for peace, nonviolence and religious harmony, and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Unlike the 20th century, in which millions died in conflict, "Let the 21st century be a century of tolerance and dialogue," he has said.
Scientific inquiry fascinates him. The Dalai Lama has engaged in many conversations with eminent scientists. He has actively sponsored dialogues to harmonize and contrast the ways of religion and science. He is a passionate advocate for the environment. He describes himself as a feminist.
Over the years, the Sadat Lecture has brought international voices of the highest caliber to our campus, including Nelson Mandela, Kofi Annan, Henry Kissinger, Ezer Weitzman, Jimmy Carter, Mary Robinson, Mohamed El Baradei, James Baker, and Madeleine Albright.
The Sadat Lecture will be FREE and open to the university community and the public; however, tickets will be required.
Information on ticket distribution, as well as parking, transportation and other details, will be posted on this web page on March 8. Please check back for updates.
This is a rare opportunity and promises to be a landmark event for the entire campus.

SONGS OF THE HEART
Krishna Das in Concert
Saturday, March 16
Doors Open at 7pm
It's looking like it's going to be a sweet crowd at the KD concert. Tickets are selling fast! If you haven't purchased your tickets yet, we encourage you to do so now. We're anticipating a sell-out.
What's it like at a Krishna Das show? From the opening sounds of the concert, as the harmonium blends with the unmistakable sound of his voice, something stirs deep within. Whatever your path to awakening, your heart knows right away that this will be a soulful evening.
And so it is.
In the tradition of call and response, the audience is invited to join their voices to the joyous energy of love and devotion. Whether you sit quietly or sing along, you will find yourself nourished and supported by the warm embrace of like-minded souls opening their hearts to something greater than themselves.
There is nothing like sitting there live and feeling the great union of spirit.
Can't be there with us? You can still find refuge in the sounds of the concert. It will be broadcast live and for a limited time after the live event by our friends at Sirius XM Satellite Radio.
The theater at the University of the District of Columbia is very centrally located at the corner of 4200 Connecticut Ave, NW, and Windom Place. The Van Ness/UDC Metro stop is just one block away. Walk north after exiting the Metro, the theater entrance will be on the west side of the street.
There are also plenty of places to eat in the vicinity. Look for Potbelly on the corner of Connecticut and Windom Place NW, and you will find the theater just up the street on Windom Place.
