Oslando is a noted Goan folklorist, singer-guitarist, composer, music arranger and conductor. Acknowledged as one of the finest producers of authentic folk music of Goa, and with several recorded releases and All India Radio/TV performances to his credit, Oslando is a name to reckon with wherever there are Goans and music. The strains of his Goan folk-song renditions have delighted many a Goan heart, not only across India but also on foreign shores.
Part III of this book contains 16 of Oslando's compositions, including the famous *Poilo Pauss* and *Noman Morie*.
Oslando D'Souza (of Cruzvaddo, Saligao) hit the Goan musical scene in 1971 when HMV recorded and released his famous composition 'Poilo Pauss' (The First Rains), a runaway success. In 1975, HMV came out with another cassette entitedl *New Konkani Hits*, containing four of his compositions. In 1978, Oriental Melodies commissioned him to record a cassette of the most traiditional art and folk songs of Goa, released in 1979 as *Soul of Goa*. IN 1981, VP Sinari & Co commissioned a second cassette of Goan music depicting the Portuguese-influenced variety of traditional Goan culture, called *Goa Meu Amor* and released in 1982. This cassette became a household world in Goan music circles. In 1984, VP Sinari commissioned another cassette of Goan music depicting the Goan church feast day tradition. Called *Boas Festas*, it was released in 1985. The cassette boasts of an actual brass-band rendition of the *Alvorada*, the melodious pre-dawn musical sound of the village brass band that was once the mark of each village feast. In 1991, VP Sinari & Co once again commissioned him to record another cassette of Portuguese and Konkani folk songs, which emerged as *Nostalgia* (1992). With this, Oslando completed the full gamut of the best-known folk song traidition of Goa. His entire collection is regarded by Goan music lovers as a veritable musical heritage of Goa. Oslando has also done innumerable recordings of Konkani folk songs for All India Radio broadcasts, notably as participating entries in the All-India Folk Music Radio Festival and the All_Asia Music Radio Festival. Now a senior citizen and an octogenarian, he has also been known for his contribution as a choral singer and conductor in Bombay's Western musical scene. He lead the quartet, *The Minstrels* for over three decades.
