Thanks to Ancy (late Francisca's sister from Donvaddo, and ex-Lourdes Convent, 1970s) for sharing it. If I remember right, Ancy (in Canada for many years) is a nurse, one of the many who went to St Martha's (Bangalore) from Saligao and picked up both skills and a huge dose of kindness-towards-the-patients there. I was caught up with a hectic publishing workload in Dec-Jan, and am only now finishing, but not quite.

Just this evening, while passing by Willy's shop at the Tinto, I saw a poster which spoke of a jumble sale at Asro in Arrarim. But when I peered in closely, the dates were already over, mid-week!

For those who know her, Daphne (Saldanha) phoned to say she would was in Goa and would be spending some time in the village to introduce it to the next generation. Celia write in from the UK to find out some family tree related content. Please post your queries here.

Had a long and interesting chat with Simon Fernandes (anyone remembers an active -- naughty? -- boy with a big black hat in the 1970s?)

Hi Annette,

A closer look at the villa and its owner reveals it to be belonging to Majorie D'sa, who I think is on this list. the listing is run by her daughter Jade. Its a lovely place in Donvaddo on the way to the hill.

We were also talking on the same point. About the vaddo.

As Fr Nascimento repeatedly reminds us, it is Muddavaddi (not Muddavaddo).

We could not however understand why this 'gender' difference.

Guess most of the houses in Saligao could be named such if one uses the term for the huge houses (villas?) that were built a long time ago - 1810 or somewhere then I think. Portuguese era?  I have never been a history fad if I had to study, now just reading as a story....then history is ok,  I think......  

And yeh, which is Marjorie's villa then - the one she is staying in, which was Ancy's house before; or the one opposite which is where Marjorie, her siblings & her parents have been staying through the the years that I have known them? 

Rico, thanks for the feedback.  I heard the vaddo being called Muddavaddi often enough but clamped it with the other two vaddos whose people claim that the St. Anne's Chapel belongs to all three vaddos - hence - Tabravaddo, Donvaddo and Muddavaddo. I am sure Fr. Nasciment can explain about the "gender" difference  There must be a story behind it & mentioned in his book....so guess we missed it.

Muddavadi it is :)

And Simon Fernandes, brother of Connie, Esther etc it is too!!!    He is now retired, been here in AD and Dubai for a while.

Strangely he was one in the Village with most hair on his Crown, now he has none :)   Very fit and amiable as ever before, lives in a flat accross the border in Sangolda village.

I was trying to egg Simon on to have a small, informal talk about his days in Saligao in the 1970s. He is considering doing so... but might need some more badgering. Please lend a hand!

Interestingly, as soon as I read about Simon with the black cowboy hat, the same Simon (Cynthia and Connie's brother) came to mind.  In my days growing up in Saligao in the '70s he was a 'legendary' figure...being the only person I knew (at the time) who owned and (religiously!! 😜) wore a black cowboy hat!! What memories!!  Haha

Well Julia, at least your mail about postings got some of us out of the woodwork. Dont worry about the comments.....there are always these.....good, bad, medium?  as long as some news....khobor... of Saligao reaches those of us interested but too far to do much else,  what does it matter eh?

Recently I received the Saligao Church bulletin...made interesting reading!  

& yeh! thanks to Rico and all others who do give us news of our village now & then......& of people with whom we have lost touch through the years.

Goodnight to all .... some of our Saligaonkars are probably waking up now - middle of the morning during the weekend? -  & I know that my relatives & friends in NZ will be awake in the next one hour.  Guess all will be enjoying their weekend whereas we have come to the end of ours & start our week tomorrow! grrh!
