Yes, Maxwell. We are privileged indeed to have (had)
"The Moira Moms". Great name for a movie.
In the mid 1970's, I would holiday at home in Arrarim right opposite Florie's house. I spent many happy hours strumming my guitar on her porch whilst the girls - May, in particular - sang Abba and other hits. Beautiful voices in effortless harmony. "Seasons in the Sun" was one song we frequently tried. How apt, those lyrics! Auntie Florie would be there, enjoying the fun. Never a discouraging word. Alfie would join us occasionally. (that's another anniversary coming up soon, together with Keegan's).
As the years went by and my two children grew up I often thought back to Auntie Florie and wondered how she did it! Bringing up those children on her own (especially May

) was truly Herculean. But to do it with no outward show of weariness or hardship was just unbelievable. Many have remarked on her smile; a gentle, comforting, disarming feature. But she also had a beautiful soft-pitched voice so soothing to the ear, and I cannot remember it ever raised.
In later years, as she grew more infirm, I visited her from time to time in Panjim and once in Vancouver. Merlin and Biblo looked after her like gold dust in their home in Panjim... a much deserved reward.
The poignancy of what has happened could not have been better-written in a Harry Potter novel. How swiftly Destiny changes polarity, swinging from birthday to funeral. How rapidly the winds change. But all said and done, 80 is a great innings and we must give thanks for her life and achievements. Her life's duties have been discharged and one of her daughters (Mavis) now enjoys the mixed blessing of being my sister-in-law. (What were Pralad and her up to whilst the rest of us were singing?!)
My sincere condolences to a family that turned a now-desolate and decaying porch into a little piece of heaven all those years ago.
Rest in Peace Auntie Florie

My sincere condolences to you May
and to all in your big famille too.
Yes, like all, I fondly remember your Mum,
a humble person indeed
and an ever more charming and radiant smile she
always had on her face for everyone.
Didnt see her for many years
As a kid, I remember she often came to the property
in front of our House
to supervise her coco trees being plucked. She
always had some kind words for us
We were always playing about in the
property. It was later given to us..
Be assured May.....She now is
surely enjoying her heavenly peace.
Dilip my friend, know something mate?
Our Mothers three....All rare Moide-kars......the
'Wiser ones'....being married in Saligao !!
