Late in sending this ... got side tracked. My condolences to the family of Yvette - may her soul rest in peace! My condolences to her friends & colleagues & students of Lourdes Convent who were fortunate to have her in the school. From the mails on this Net, gauged that she was well liked but was given a hard time too.
I do recall Yvette as a teacher in Lourdes Convent. & as someone on this Net mentioned, had exceptionally small feet. Dont remember which year she joined but I do remember Lira & of course knew Ninette & the others. Recognised all in the picture, Ninette...you still have it eh? Black & white at that, but it did bring back memories of my old school days (just 3 years spent in Lourdes Convent) and as most said, best years - school years.
During our time, in the senior classes, we had the teachers - Ms. Shirley, Ms. Mabel, Mr. Pednekar, Sr. Veronica, Sr. Hilaria & Sr. Celine. And I have not forgotten Sr. Lavinia who made the religion classes so interesting with quiz etc. that I got to reading the Bible as a story book. I remember Sr. Irene, Sr. Blandina & others who didnt teach us but were always around or visiting us at our homes. Oh & dont forget the strict piano & music teacher Ms. Margaret - she stayed somewhere near Yvonne's house. Favourite song that she got us to sing in voices was "Whispering Hope".
Didnt realise Albert was in the school too, but guess he was sent off (werent the boys allowed in Lourdes Convent only till the 6th Std.?) before I joined in 1967.
Yeh May, you are right, we stayed in school till 11th, you all went to pre-university after 10th or what was called Higher Secondary School. Dont I remember your batch?!!! With students like you, Urbina, Ivy & others - who wouldnt? I recall Ivy because she made a good puppet - enjoyed the puppet show anyway. Hey Tina, you all wrote only 1000 lines after school,... if I was in Sr. Hilaria's place, I would have doubled that, so no dinner either - ha ha! Not that we didnt play havoc during Sr. Hilaria's class, but I liked her & she helped me in Hindi then (Hindi - a new language & script for me & the bane of my then young life).
Hey Patsy, didnt you use that white liquid that we all used for our tennis shoes? Despite the red mud, our shoes remained white ..,, perhaps the same sort of liquid was used in the wash, so saris remained white with the maroon stripes standing out starkly. Just kidding! But yeh I recall the nuns jumping.
Lots of memories triggered by condolence mail. Thanks for them all.
We pray for the repose of the soul of Yvette.
Annette
