Hi rico

i totally agree with maurices viewpoints below.. do u even know these
panchs before defending them? i for one am no at all agianst ppl not
doing furthur studies. i myself with my knowledge and manpower are only
12th pass!!! but still i am something. but no. what we are questioning
is NOT illetracy in the panchayet but totally apathy and selfishness and
lack of understanding and moral values and so much more!!!! even though
i was not around i symathise with alics viewpoints and disagree with yours

Rico,you just might have a point with regard to literate and/or well educated people being as or more foolish & corrupt as those not....but .....surely there should be some form of decorum, some sort of respect shown when at a meeting - any meeting! ..whether people attending are literate or otherwise!. Even "illiterate" & "poor" people have a sense of decency... cleaning toenails??? at a meeting???
 
I am sure most of us would feel the same as Alice & Maurice did if we were at that meeting.  One does not feel respected if one is shouted down anywhere or not listened to, especially as this meeting was held so that the villagers of Saligao could speak & listen - from what I read, they were not allowed to do either.  They have every right to do both.
