How to even avoid chatter feeds on home page and also can we have a custom tab?

LEt me explain my cllient don't want chatter to be available for internal users but available for community users so that they can send messages.
We want to avoid users to see chatter updates on Home page and need to use the custom tab just for checking private messages.

These messages will be shown at chatter tab --> Private messages right.
As we are hiding the chatter tab to make it unavailable for internal users.So my plan is to create a VF tab or webtab to just show private messages Is it possible?
