How to add Opportunity ID to Report Type: Assets

Hi,

Please advise how I can add the "Opportunity ID" to the Assets report type.

The Assets report already has "Opportunity" as an option, so I think adding "Opportunity ID" would be a simple task. Our IT guy has said that this 1) "is not possible", 2) "can only be done with an ETL tool", and 3) "Oppty ID is hidden...cannot be changed because no one has access to salesforce hidden code". None of this make sense since the "Opportunity" field is available and the "Opportunity ID" would be at the same level. I would love to get to the bottom of this. Please advice.

If I understood your post correctly, you wanted to add Opp salesforce record ID as a column in the Report which has Assets.   

My Opinion : 

Standard Object Opportunities  and Assets are  not directly related.   If you have created a custom lookup  relations between these two object then  I guess you can have a report type of Assets with Opps and this must give you a column (Opportunity ID) in the report.   When you create records of Assets  or Opportunities by linking these two objects , you must see them reflected in the report.   For this to achieve, I dont think is an issue, unless I misunderstood or missing any key info.

Hi Suresh, Thanks for your reply. Might you be able to provide me instructions that I could pass on to our SFDC administrator (or myself in our Sandbox) as to how I would add the Opportunity ID to the selection of fields (already includes Opportunity) for the Asset report? Attached is a view of the Assets report and currently available Custom Asset Information. Thanks again.

Looks like you have opp lookup field on asset, if that's true you have couple of options 

1. Create a formula field on asset object to get the opp id. This pretty simple task for admin. 

Formula to use :  opportunity__r.Id

2. Create a custom report type from app setup and Choose primary object as Opportunity and in the second step select asset as child object.
