Hi,
My thoughts are with the people of Japan as they continue to deal with the impacts
of the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters. To show support for the
Japanese people in this time of crises, I am putting together a vigil in Portland on March 28th. I am contacting you to ask: 1. Can you join? 2. Can you spread the word by sending an email/facebook message etc to your people (I included a sample message below that you can use)?
It would be appreciated if you want to bring signs, candles, whatever you want. However, since this is a very serious crisis and the idea is to show our support I want to ask you to not bringing group logos or any branding or promotional articles to this event.
Thank you!
Portland, On March 28th join us in solidarity with the people of Japan:
Dear Friends,
The people of Japan are going through a terrible crisis. But they
are not alone. There’s been an outpouring of support from people around
the world and the situation has truly brought out the best in
humankind.
...
Here in Portland, a candlelight vigil is being organized at Terry
Schrunk Plaza (SW 3rd and Madison) at 6pm on March 28th to demonstrate solidarity
with the people of Japan and to imagine a world free of nuclear
disasters. As all types of other support continues to flow between our
two countries, we wanted to take a minute and simply let the Japanese
people know that our thoughts and best wishes are with them during this
time.
Your attendance is what will send our thoughts all the way to Japan.
Can you join us at the Terry Schrunk Plaza (SW 3rd and Madison) for a candlelight vigil for Japan on March 28th at 6pm?
With lighted candles under blooming trees we will honor the people
of Japan. We will send our condolences and thoughts of respect,
admiration and well-intent to the people of Japan at this time of
intense crisis. I will bring supplies for us to write our thoughts on
pieces of paper we can tie to a tree branch and/or use for origami
cranes.
