I'm pretty sure nobody checks this group anymore, and hasn't for quite awhile.  What Salem furs are still active mostly keep in touch here: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/salemareafurs/ but even that's not super-active.  You'll still have better luck there though.

I'm pretty sure some of us still get the emails, but a lot of us have moved to Portland or Eugene or elsewhere. The salem fur community has a way of ebbing and flowing over the years as a bunch of new furs pop up, then move somewhere better XP (I lived there and was in the community for 8 years)

i know there are furs in the area because i've known some who have came to things in the Portland area from down there.

darned if i can remember their names though. i'm sure there's at LEAST 4 or 5, though. might just take some pro-active ferreting out.

There's a handful of salem furrs thought with no one planning meets they stay fairly hidden. Even when the group was active most furrs that showed up where from out of town. Would like to see it more active, but takes time to set up meets and get folks involved. If you want to plan something make a set date, time and place then post it on all groups, salem, Eugene, portland and Oregon furrs.
Sometimes you hafta drag us out of our dens by the tail kicking and screaming :)
Good luck will help how I can, but being a long haul driver never can say when I will be around.

You will find, especially in the state of Oregon, that most furs want to enjoy the work of others, not actually take the lead and do the work. That's been my experience over the years. That's not true of everyone, just of the majority. And it's for varied reasons, not just one particular. If you want to plan something, just go for it! You may have to go it alone at first, but people will come.

As an addendum to this I would say that this holds true for most places and with most groups. There are always a few doers and a lot of people that just enjoy the works of others. Throwing a party or planning a camp out or getting everyone off bowling are a good example. A lot of times one very motivated doer can badger their friends into helping by asking for help insistently until they say yes just to stop someone from asking. Then you get conventions.

Many locals I know in Oregon are on twitter... or some chat channel. Hit those places... make some friends.. and then plan a meet at (insert location) and then do it. Or option two is to wait for a doer, like Triss here, to plan a party and show up at the party and meet people there. Oh.. and then drag him off and pick his brain clean about everyone like a vulture over a dead cow in the desert.
